Water is something we all use every day, but it can also do great harm to your home. Rot, mold and rust are the most common issues you see from water damage, but there are many other issues that it can cause. Unfortunately, there are also many different causes for water damage, and some of them are tricky to detect. Finding out what the cause is for water damage is made more difficult by the ability of water to travel quite some distance before settling. Whether the water is coming from a leaking pipe, condensation, a hole or crack in your roof or siding, the point where water manifests can be far away from where it entered. Your job will be to backtrack it to its source and then find a way to fix the problem.

It might be that you have signs of water damage in your home, such as an area that is yellow tinted. To check if it is an active leak, you might be able to feel the spot and see if it is cold or even damp. It is possible that the leak was just a temporary problem, but usually, with water damage, it is better to err on the cautious side.
