Did you know that on average a person uses the toilet about 2,500 times a year? Most of the time, for us this is something we don’t think twice about as the vast majority of us have at least one toilet in our home. To keep this essential part of our home functioning well, its helpful to know a little more about keeping our toilets in good working order.
Toilets are actually quite a complicated design and need all their parts to work efficiently. Keep your eye out for any chips or damage to the toilet. If an inspector finds this, it would be written up as a defective toilet.
To see if your toilets are working well, flush each one and see if they take a long time to fill up again, or even if they are taking too long to flush. Does your toilet run constantly? This could be a problem as it could be using a lot of water which if you have mains water, could prove costly. If however you have a private well, this could be damaging to the pump and dry up your well quickly. As you can see, either way this is a big problem.
How new is your toilet?
Did you know that federal law prohibits a flushing toilet to use more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush? For many of us, we probably didn’t even realize we used that much. If the toilet however was manufactured before 1994, this law does not apply.
